While we usually tailor our tech tips to SMBs and enterprises, we're shifting focus to the little ones in our lives this week. That's right, with schools closed in response COVID-19, working from home - with our kids - is the reality for a lot of us. Why not embrace it? This week, we look at cool IT projects for parents to help keep their kids stimulated and learning so that the whole family can Live Easy, together.
Taking the Time
What we're going through today, as the Coronavirus pandemic forces us away from each other, will be written in the history books of generations to come. How we respond will dictate the moral of the story our grandchildren will learn. So why not put our best efforts together to tell the story of what can be achieved when the world comes together for a united cause?
The kids are home - all the time - and that means so are we. As our families learn to adapt to new living situations, we should remember that at the base of all these "inconveniences", our kids can't go to school. We're seeing positive stories every day of teachers implementing virtual classrooms to keep education going. However, many kids are still left without a plan.
At LeCiir, we value education and believe every kid should keep on learning - pandemic or not. So we've put together a few fun (and free) IT projects the whole family can enjoy together, at home.
Learning Together
Learning comes in many forms. Collaboration, for instance, can help every person involved learn something new. One way for family members to digitally collaborate with each other is with Trello. Popular among enterprises, Trello is also gaining popularity with Trello for Home - a fun and free collaborative tool for families. As described on ComputerWorld, Trello organizes projects into boards allowing collaborators (in this case, our kids) to see what's being worked on, by whom, and where something is in a process. Families can assign chores and plan meals for the week - both of which may be useful ways to establish a routine in times of quarantine. Trying to focus on the positive? Why not plan a party of vacation for the future?
With more time together, now seems like a great time to learn how to use a trendy technology as a family. As daily routines eventually get back to normal, the ability to plan and coordinate together in one virtual, accessible space will only become more useful.
Another fun way to collaborate and learn as a family is to build a family website. This cool IT project helps parents keep kids stimulated while also helping them develop the skills to use platforms like WordPress, for example, on which 36% of the web is built. Staying Connected
As usual, we can't resist talking about the cloud. When our kids do go back to school, having access to the work they accomplished at home is going to be important. A fun way to ensure a smooth transition back to school is by signing them up for free cloud storage services. In an article from ComputerWorld, the Best Free Cloud Storage of 2020 is summed up, including Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and iCloud, with storage space from 2-15 GB. Kids can set up and organize cloud storage from home, making it accessible to them from school later on.
For families looking to dive deeper into the IT department, setting up virtual machines, workplaces, and classrooms can also be a great way to stay connected and spend time together at home. We'll get into that next week. In the meantime, stay in school, but stay home.
